Walking on sunshine
During the dog days of summer, a favourite walking route takes us to a home and garden where exuberant Rudbeckia hirta (black-eyed Susan) creates a path of sunshine at our feet...
...and attracts and nourishes the pollinators:
Echinacea & Bumblebee
Along the seawall path to Granville Island a pollinator-friendly border of Echinacea (Purple Cornflower) provides nectar and pollen to bumblebees.
‘Hidcote’ Purple
I cut a few lavender stems for display and drying. The rest stays in the garden to provide nectar for the bees. It's no great sacrifice as I enjoy watching the pollinators at work.
